At the Institute for Pre-Primary and Primary Education at the Bern University of Teacher Education, the interface between theory courses and practical training is a gateway for reflexive writing. In communities of practice, the students learn how to put their experiences into writing. Students document real-life situations from their internships in an electronic portfolio, referring to theoretical concepts. This article describes how the e-portfolio is implemented in the communities of practice and highlights the importance of reflective scientific writing for professional development in teacher education.
