With MeMoPad we established a faculty-wide, compulsory mentoring for freshmen. Our first-year students get systematically introduced to the study program and supported in dealing with all those typical problems one has to face at the very beginning and with respect to successful and efficient studies, such as planning everyday life and study, working ‘academically’, learning how to learn etc. To ensure an effective but familiar atmosphere, all the faculty’s academic staff is engaged in the mentoring program. The article describes the conceptual background and goals and gives details on organizational and didactic aspects.
