At the beginning of the Bachelor’s degree programme in midwifery, students work on a case story divided into six episodes. The case story portrays a fictional couple going through pregnancy. Students use the “7-step method” to analyse the case and solve the problems which occur. By using this method, students obtain the competence needed to supervise women autonomously during a regular pregnancy. In order to transfer the theoretical learning experience into practice, students also participate in a project called “learning from pregnant women”. As part of the project, students accompany one woman throughout the course of her pregnancy. This gives them a valuable insight into how the woman experiences this time span. Problem-based learning through case stories supported by the transfer benefit ensures a strong practical focus and deepens student competences in this area.
