This paper offers an insight into the process of creating a competence-based curriculum for secondary school teacher studies and describes the structure of the School of Education at Salzburg University. After providing a framework of competences for the four main components of teacher studies, the paper outlines the development of competences in the bachelor and master study phases, as well as the steps needed to move towards a cluster system.
