The digitalisation of higher education is currently a highly dynamic field. Many universities need to check whether existing e-learning strategies are still compatible with newer strategic definitions within the university. Alternatively, universities are beginning to develop comprehensive strategies for digitisation that may augment or replace existing strategies regarding e-learning. This paper uses an example of such a strategic renewal process to shed some light on the advantages and disadvantages of such procedures. The analysis is based on the St. Gallen model of sustainable implementation of e-learning.
