Gender focused teaching is little known in university didactics. Lecturers often think that the category of gender is not relevant for their subjects and that their own teaching is gender-neutral. Professors are quite often unaware of the fact that their method of teaching is gender stereotypical. In order to change this at university level awareness of “gender science” and “gendersensivity” are necessary. This article discusses different concepts of gender-relevant issues e.g. “equality”, “reconstruction” and “deconstruction”. In addition to this the article contains exercises that are useful for raising awareness of gender issues. Both theory and practical experience are necessary for the development of gender competence.
