Since 2013, so-called online self-assessments (OSAs) have been the first mandatory step in a multi-stage admission process for several degree programmes at the University of Vienna. This paper presents empirical data from the academic years 2013/14 and 2014/15, which reveal high acceptance within the population, while also showing indications of a self-selection effect. Additionally, the paper demonstrates that readily available OSA achievement data can increase planning reliability for the University. In several programmes, the second stage of the admission process (admission test) was cancelled due to reduced numbers of registered applicants. From the students' perspective, this is a resource-friendly approach.
