For many first-year students, courses in mathematics and natural sciences cause significant problems. Due to time restrictions and organizational conditions, condensed preparatory courses cannot sufficiently compensate for lacking knowledge. The online learning platform described in this paper was developed at the Faculty of Engineering & Computer Sciences at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences to provide courses in mathematics, physics, chemistry, electrical engineering and programming. When integrated into a blended learning concept, it provides opportunities for students to work independently on their subject-related knowledge gaps. The content is provided in sequential videos, which are enriched with activating interactive content, such as applets or interactive questions. In this way, a new breed of preparatory course is provided, which allows the students to work independently for a longer period of time.
