Nowadays, the groups of students entering universities are becoming larger and more heterogeneous. This development brings with it the challenge of supporting first-year students in their new environments and fostering their learning skills. In this respect, peer learning offers possibilities based on active and collaborative learning that can help first-year students acclimate to the university setting. This paper presents a case study of two peer learning designs for first-year students in business study programmes. In addition to the instructional design and the implementation processes, the paper reports some initial empirical results concerning the effects of the relevant peer learning concepts.
