This article discusses different approaches for analysing user activities in linear and non-linear instructional videos. The principle goal is to understand how students use instructional videos and how they behave in video-based learning environments. Starting from the aggregation of log file data, suitable methods for the visual analysis of groups and individuals are introduced. User behaviors in nonlinear or hypervideos are explained using learning paths, segment-time diagrams and graph-based visualisations.
