The goal of developing “cooperative curricula” is to promote the opening of universities to allow more people to continue their education. The Diakonie University of Applied Sciences in Bielefeld, Germany, has recently worked on a different method for developing such degree programmes. In this approach, new curricula are developed not by the universities alone, but rather in cooperation with companies and institutions of vocational training. The German Ministry for Education and Research supports the development and evaluation of such concepts. This article provides an insight into the concept and discusses its opportunities and challenges.
