Mentoring can be seen as one of the most successful interventions for supporting structurally disadvantaged pupils in their academic development. In 2012, we started the project “Springboard –easily fostering talents together” at the University of Salzburg. Here, teacher trainees are trained as mentors for structurally disadvantaged pupils (mentees). The mentors serve as role models for the mentees. The mentees are supervised, in order to support the development of their talents. The literature on mentoring has already identified important moderators, which are essential for the success of a mentoring project and therefor crucial for our project. Our project’s success is evaluated through a pre-post comparison and an additional control group, which will receive an alternative intervention.
