Open Educational Resources exist on the fringes of regular post-secondary education and are thus falling far short of their potential. This article discusses some possible obstacles to the adoption of such resources and shows how combining a modified understanding of “openness” with a corresponding platform can help overcome these obstacles. Based on usage data gathered from an established system, the article describes how such an architecture can lead to a sustainable exchange of educational resources among instructors and support innovative approaches to teaching.
