In accordance with the changes brought about by the Bologna process, the goals of higher education should go beyond knowledge development to include the advancement of systematic, social and personal competences as well, which are all essential factors. Thus, the acquisition of specialist knowledge should be related to the respective field of application. This requires the creation of learning opportunities that facilitate the equal advancement of both specialist and vocational competences. For this to be successful, students must be sensitized to the different areas of competence and the related learning goal taxonomies. Furthermore, they have to be supported in their reflections on their own learning progress. The project seminar introduced in this paper provides an orientation that can help university teachers meet these new challenges.
