This article focuses on two approaches to teaching conceptions of academic teachers by analyzing subjective statements made by teachers at the Technische Universität Braunschweig about their own teaching. The article presents the concepts underlying these approaches, as well as some initial results. The authors then offer some suggestions about how to evaluate the results of programs designed to enhance academic teaching. Finally, the article outlines further research questions and procedures that might contribute to a deeper understanding of the academic teacher’s role in higher education.
