The Bologna reform introduced the concept of a student workload, defining learning tasks and study commitment in terms of time. The workload is used to plan the curriculum. This article explains how the time budget method generates knowledge that refutes popular assumptions and beliefs and illuminates the true background of empirically observed phenomena. This knowledge can in turn be used to expand perspectives on quality assessment, which is necessary for accreditation.
