The Bologna process encouraged the implementation of multi-disciplinary course content, in particular in the engineering sciences. The effort to modify and redesign the curriculae for bachelor and master degrees provided opportunities to integrate the acquisition of key competencies in university education. In this context, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) developed concepts for teaching these skills, which eventually led to the design of a course titled “Working Methods in Mechanical Engineering”. This paper explains the concept and implementation of this course.
