Several programme grants from the German government and several foundations seek to promote good teaching practice at the college level (including grants from the Ministry of Education and Research for more than 2 billion Euros). These programmes aim to foster a new learning culture in higher education that would contribute to the enhancement of teaching quality. This article shows how faculty could be motivated to participate in the implementation of new learning (and teaching) cultures. The author draws on her understanding of a learning and teaching culture, on best-practice examples, and on recent research.
