Since the beginning of the Bolongna Process, lectures and modules have been continuously re-structured and further developed. The project for competence-oriented learning by teaching was established as a new training method in the bioinorganic module of the chemistry graduate programme at the Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen. The project was launched in 2010, and in 2011 it received a prize from the Hessian Ministry for Science and the Arts. The distinguishing characteristic of this project is a bioinorganic symposium, which is organized and conducted by 2nd-semester students. School classes with the main subjects chemistry and biology are invited to this symposium. In accordance with the principle of a “shift from teaching to learning”, a constructive and cooperative debate about the subject-specific contents was ensured.
