The threats to Germany as an industrial site posed by economic crises and low-wage countries lead to one universal agreement – innovations are the key to sustainable competitiveness. However, innovations only come into being through a creative process combined with expertise and logic. It is only partly possible to increase the systematization of this process. In the future, challenges will no longer be met by individual disciplines, but rather by multidisciplinary research teams. To support this vision, modern architecture has to serve certain purposes. Only the intelligent connection between functionality and esthetics can enable interdisciplinary knowledge transfer. This article focuses on these aspects and ends with the transfer into a University-affiliated research cluster.
