Within the framework of the report, some university-relevant aspects are identified, which in turn allow for a generalisation of the planning and development of university institutions. Thereby, it can be preliminarily asserted that the implementation of four university campuses in Innsbruck has generated a common terminology which has served for both internal and external communciation. One definite objective of campus development is the spatial concentration of university facilities, as well as their structural and functional links to each other. A broad range of non-university facilities, such as exhibition rooms, galleries, coffee houses, and shops, should help enliven the campus. Subsequently, this should enable an increased integration into the urban space through a creative, structural orientation. In this regard, “master plans” for university campuses are a practical instrument as a long-term strategy for development.
