The creation of an innovative campus (contemporary learning, teaching and research areas) entails not only the building and designing of the physical environment, but also taking into account the interactions of the different actors. If one focuses on these actors throughout the construction process (from the perspectives of planning, controlling and future use), both the main challenges and new perspectives can be worked out. The present critical-reflective statement illustrates this different way of looking at the construction process using the example of universities of applied sciences.
