Tutorials as a field of research: From ‘private lessons’ to impulses for teaching excellence

If tutors have undergone higher education training, tutorials can offer several new incentives for excellent teaching. Nonetheless, there has been very little research in this field, and the existing research has been largely overlooked. This contribution discusses the perspectives and aspects of research on tutorials and their influence on teaching excellence at universities.
