The aim of this contribution is to compare general educational practice in universities and in medical education at the levels of structure and content so as to be able to develop perspectives for reciprocal complementation and to make use of synergy effects. To this end, a comparison was made between educational practices at university and medical school on two levels: with regard to the structural aspect, comparisons were made between selected advanced training courses and professional associations; with regard to content, the principle of “competence orientation”, which is a current focus in both educational systems, was contrasted. The results of the comparisons identified the following objective: that through meaningful work distribution and reciprocal complementation, teaching at university level can be professionalised and the corresponding research activities strengthened and extended.
