This contribution provides an overview of the experiences gained in the further education of lecturers in the past few years at the Center of Professional Development (IFB) at Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) related to the use of shortcuts in both higher education didactics and general academic further education. After a brief definition of these ‘shortcuts’, including arguments for and against them, a plea for the use of shortcuts in the further education of lecturers is made, which is supported by both qualitative and quantitative evidence.
