This essay argues, that competence for teaching in higher education needs thinking about philosophy of science. For this, a conceptual framework to locate questions about research on higher education is being outlined. After this it is argued, that university didactics is an educational discipline as well as an element of research on universities.This is a working basis to specify the aims of university didactics.
