“Lifelong Learning via Portfolio” is a collaboration between the Technical University Darmstadt and the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt. This article provides an overview of the current state of the discussion and the findings of this project, which seeks to establish a more harmonious relationship between vocational and university education by developing methods for the recognition of prior learning. The paper focuses first on the the structural changes implemented by the Bologna-Process and then deals with the effects of demographic changes on the Bologna-Process and the possible coherency between individual and across-the-board recognition. In addition, the paper describes the goals and experiences of the project, as well as the interim results.
