Demokratix is an online tool enabling students to contribute ideas to democratic decision making processes in institutions of higher education. The project originated after the student strikes in Augsburg, Germany. During the strikes participants relied heavily on digital media to communicate their criticism towards the Bologna Process. Demokratix was subsequently funded through an internal innovation programme at the University of Augsburg. The goal was to integrate idea management into the central learning management system. Once activated, Demokratix allows students to identify problems in their courses, suggest solutions, and rate solutions suggested by other users. By making the students’ perspective public, Demokratix supports traditional decision making in in higher education.
