Student workload is object of some current quantitative research projects. The first results of these projects partly suggest that student workload is less than assumed. These findings are conclusions of time use surveys, which capture solely the time students used straight for their studies. As a result, the concept of what studying means is contracted. Learning targets are irrelevant, and normative settings of time standards are adopted unchecked. This article deals crucially with these assumptions and questions whether studying is more than credit points and student workload.
