In view of increasing numbers of plagiarism cases a big challenge arises for colleges to prevent plagiarisms in the academic student papers instead of prejudging students as frauds: in reaction to plagiarism, web-based plagiarism detection systems are increasingly used to generally control submitted papers. To cope with this problematic situation a preventive university-didactic concept was developed, the Voluntary Plagiarism Check (VPC), which focuses on the development of individual competency. Students can submit their academic papers anonymously. The mistakes are interpreted and summarized by us to carry out a consultation for the students. The VPC was evaluated concerning didactic and competence-related questions concerning the honest academic way of writing.
