Digital transformation of research: Case studies from Austria and Germany

This paper seeks to explore and classify the papers in this special issue on digitalisation in research at Austrian universities from the perspective of the German higher education and science system. It highlights current developments in Germany and points out comparable research projects, infrastructure developments and funding measures in Austria. Ideally, these developments represent general trends in the German research landscape, although an exhaustive analysis is impossible due to the wide range of disciplines covered in this special issue. The comparative analysis indicates that there are congruences in many areas, but that selected aspects could be exemplary for research in Germany.
