Managing research data according to the FAIR principles is crucial for preserving its value and long-term utility, as well as ensuring transparency and openness in science. Domain-specific, FAIR-compliant and trustworthy data repositories are essential for the sustainable management of research data at universities. Using the Austrian NeuroCloud project as an example, this paper outlines the challenges of implementing a sustainable repository and proposes potential solutions. For long-term sustainability, integration into the university’s development plan and secure embedding within the financial agreements between the university and the ministry are essential.
