ESP for Students of Education – Report of a Course Held at Klagenfurt University

Considering the importance of English as international language of communication, research and modern information technology, it is indispensable that Austrian stu- dents of education become acquainted with EEP (English for Educational Purposes), which is a basic condition for understanding authentic English educational texts. Furthermore, students should be encouraged to learn about the most important aspects of scientific educational discourse and become familiar with the latest achievements of educational research in the English-speaking countries. The third aim is to teach the students how to search and find reference to the various aspects of educational discourse, either in libraries or on the Web. To know how to use the resources of modern information technology effectively and critically is an important skill they will need for their studies as well as for their professional careers.
