Sustainable digital twins in agriculture

Digitisation in agriculture is taking place at a rapid pace. The significant risks associated with the application of solutions whose fundamentals and implications are often not fully understood pose a high potential threat to the resilience and sustainability of agriculture. This paper demonstrates the use of the concept of digital twins on two selected experimental farms in Austria. The project aims to establish a future-oriented experimental structure for interdisciplinary research and teaching at an international level by setting up state-of-the-art experimental farms as digital twins. The project thereby offers a framework for the integration of multi-criteria requirements to enable the sustainable design of digital twins in agriculture.
