Future-oriented teaching requires concepts that enable students to actively address the social challenges of sustainable development. Higher Education for Sustainable Development (HESD) is an outstanding option, but it must first be integrated into curricula. This paper shows how ESD content and methods can be successfully incorporated into curricula. In particular, this paper focuses on a systematic, spiral-curricular integration of key competencies for sustainability in the module descriptions of study programmes, which can contribute to the design of sustainable study programmes.
