e-Learning is becoming more and more important for the stategic development of universities. It is not only the complex nature of organising und supporting learning in the “digital age” that forces universities to look for integrated ICT-supported service solutions but also influences like the Bologna process and the students’ changed expectations of services. A prerequisite for such an integrated infrastructure is a high level of coordination and the willingness to cooperate across institutional boundaries. In Hamburg the development of such an inter-institutional infrastructure has been started within the so-called “eCampus” project. This article gives an account of the background, aims and structure of the project and closes with a brief “lessons learned” section.
