This paper analyses selected digitisation projects at Austrian public universities funded by the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (2020-2024) with the intention of improving higher education quality through better use of digital technologies. These teaching development projects, which can be characterised as piloting individual cases, can be located in fields of tension . This paper describes three such fields (innovation – consolidation, control – participation, individual case – generalisation) and also offers some supplementary observations from the review of the project descriptions. In an excursus, reference is also made to related project funding in Switzerland.
