This paper describes a concept for using the simulation game method in the initial phase of teacher-training at vocational schools. The students develop the theoretical foundations for complex teaching and learning arrangements and then design various didactic application scenarios for economics lessons. The focus is on the development of characteristics and the didactic implementation of (business) simulation games. Simulation games represent an action-oriented method that makes it possible to experience complex forms of action in a near realistic way, even in a school setting. Action-oriented learning is central to vocational training, as it enables learners to plan, implement and monitor methods for managing and solving problems in practice. The result is a portfolio of tested and evaluated concepts and materials that can be used directly in future teaching activities.
