The process of increasing autonomy for German universities leads to changing responsibilities between state and universities as well as within universities. Increasing responsibilities of central university management and of deans in faculties result in necessary reorganization of faculty management. The following article describes new aspects of faculty management and argues its closeness to academy. The article finally discusses the role of decentral management in the light of changing academic self-administration.
