Continuing education and lifelong learning programmes at universities target socalled non-traditional students. Within the context of such programmes, this comparative study highlights the differences and similarities between those students working on board and those working on shore. The study is based on the boundary theory, which posits that individuals differ in the way they separate or integrate
activities from different life domains. These analyses explore the influences of space, time, family and friends, professional position and learning motivation.
