Currently there are lots of discussions und research about the necessity of e-learning strategies for universities. Good practices must not be interpreted wrong since many universities have difficulties with new media – both as organizational strategy and as chance for cultural change. The article collects some facts about the status of e-learning at universities and outlines the challenges facing the students who seem to be prepared for e-learning and facing the Bologna process which suggest e-learning. Besides the article gives a review of systemic and psychological barriers appearing thereby. As an idea the article recommends to connect e-learning and knowledge management striving the goal to make the university a place of learning again – for the organization as well as for its members.
