An effective organization is characterized by a well-rehearsed coaction between strategy, structure, and culture. This contribution highlights a section of this framework namely the interplay between structural and cultural changes that have been undertaken during the introduction of independent studies at the University of St. Gallen. Specific structural and cultural changes will be described followed by an analysis of the coaction of these two parts. On this basis, guiding principles for the management of change in higher learning and teaching will be derived.
