Since the establishment of ETH Zurich in 1855, it’s mission is the education of leaders and specialists in science, industry, politics and society as well as in top-level research and knowledge transfer in natural and engineering sciences. To accomplish its goals, ETH Zurich relies on reliable and cutting edge, flexible infrastructure. The strategic planning therefore foresees three knowledge spaces: ETH Zentrum, ETH Science City and ETH World. This paper will describe their role in university planning and the necessary decisions to develop an integrated research, learning and teaching environment.
