In the STEM subjects, pre-courses are very common. This makes it all the more surprising that few (impact) evaluations of the STEM pre-courses have been conducted to date, and as a result there are hardly any findings on this intervention. In order to investigate the short, medium, and long-term effects of STEM pre-courses on aspects relevant to studies, a systematic literature review was conducted in 21 electronic databases. The 29 studies that were included point to rather short-term effects of STEM pre-courses at the subject level. In addition, however, medium-term and non-professional effects can also be identified.
