This article is going to take a closer look on the persons working in the Third Space, their development pathways and strategies of professionalization. The focus lies on the field of Academic Development. It provides an insight into the recent activities and roles of Third-Space staff. Furthermore new trends and related challenges are presented. Existing German and international theoretical articles and empirical studies are evaluated and discussed. The aim is to illustrate the status quo of the field of research of professionalism of Academic Development to gain information on the specifications of professional activity and to identify open questions.
