In the field of ??engineering courses, mathematical knowledge is of great relevance to the degree programme. Due to the heterogeneity of the educational backgrounds of programme participants (due to the different paths that can lead to a study at a University of Applied Sciences), students have very levels and types of existing knowledge when they begin studying (see, for example, Banscherus 2013).

As an example of a methodology that addresses the challenge of such heterogeneity in a classical lecture setting, this paper presents the method of Computer-Assisted Learning and provides an initial evaluation based on studies / evaluation results.
