Asset Management: What For?

The main purpose of Asset Management Systems is to provide a central repository, administrative and retrieval structure for digital ressources and thus to create a lasting, citeable storage of digitally available scientific data. Asset management supports and encourages collaborative work methods in the (inter)national scientific community and is increasingly used as a valuable tool for public relations by scientific institutions. From a technological perspective, XML-based frameworks in particular afford flexible methods of document filing (single-source publishing) with an extraordinary degree of reuseability of the existing eContents.
