The number of people with vocational training who go on to gain further academic qualifications while working professionally has been increasing, as has the number of educational programs designed to meet this demand. This article analyses the requirements of employers and employees for academic training programs, with a focus on vocationally trained IT professionals. The results show several demands from both parties for a connection between academic and professional education in the university context. In addition, this paper discusses the challenges univiersities face in terms of profile development and the job evaluation of prospective students.
