The Bologna-Process, the development of European Qualifications Framework of Lifelong Learning, and the concept of Lifelong Learning (LLL) touch issues that can be supportive for university continuing education. At the same time they strengthen existing ambivalences in the tertiary sector. This essay discusses the prerequisites under which these European concepts can contribute to a development of institutional LLL-strategies at Austrian Universities.
