Standard evaluation tools have proven to be inadequate for evaluating ensemble teaching at Musikhochschulen. This paper describes how an appropriate course evaluation tool was developed based on findings of teaching-learning research, learning outcomes of music studies and an application-oriented research based on qualitative interviews with teachers. This approach enabled us to identify the learning outcomes for a competence-oriented course evaluation. This novel tool for self-reflection also offers links to didactic and curriculum development at universities.
